It was a point of confusion for many participants that, following the amendment to the SHI Rules effective 1 July 2025, homoeopathic consultations continued to be reimbursable while homoeopathic medicaments became non-reimbursable.
The Legal Office at the WHO Headquarters clarified in October 2026 that, as per SHI Rules effective 1 July 2025, any consultation with physicians related to non-reimbursable alternative medicine, including prescribed examinations, medications, and any subsequent treatments, is not reimbursable. The underlying principle is that consultations associated with treatments that are not covered under the SHI Rules are likewise excluded from reimbursement.
Accordingly, this principle applies to consultations with physicians for the provision of homoeopathic treatment, as homoeopathy is no longer a reimbursable benefit under the SHI Rules. In this regard, please note that SHI Rule B.90 makes specific reference to Rule B.243.
In summary, where homoeopathy (or any other treatment) is not reimbursable under SHI, the associated physician consultations, diagnostic tests, and prescribed medicaments are likewise not eligible for reimbursement.
Following this clarification, it was applied prospectively, effective 1 November 2026.
